Pure Land Buddhism as a whole has received comparatively little attention in Western studies on Buddhism despite the importance of “buddha-fields” (pure lands) for the growth and expression of Mahyna Buddhism. In this first religious history of Tibetan Pure Land literature, Georgios Halkias delves into a rich collection of literary, historical, and archaeological sources to highlight important aspects of this neglected pan-Asian Buddhist tradition. He clarifies many of the misconceptions concerning the interpretation of “other-world” soteriology in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism and provides translations of original Tibetan sources from the ninth century to the present that represent exoteric and esoteric doctrines that continue to be cherished by Tibetan Buddhists for their joyful descriptions of the Buddhist path. Georgios T. Halkias specializes in Tibetan and Himalayan religions and history and has held research posts and fellowships in the U.K., at the Warburg Institute, the University of London, and the Oxford Centre for Buddhist Studies; in Germany at the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum; and the Jdo-Shinsh Otani-ha Foundation in Kyoto. His publications include a number of articles on Tibetan and central Asian Buddhism, Himalayan history, and interdisciplinary studies in religion.

The author does a magnificent job of capturing the life and times of His Majesty Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, Shah of Iran. In addition, even so, it still is in heavy tension with other Catholic Dogma's.

On Limited Atonement, he is the most horrendous. The toad does not like that the turtle is sad about his shell and try's to get the turtle to accept himself for who he is. I think it would be excellent for professionals who are involve in the care of autistic children. And of course the story about Prince Florian and Aurora is retold beautifully. Once they mastered the regular activity that has the answer key, I had them ignore the color code and put them all in ABC order-a much more difficult task but very rewarding to see them complete the task! There's also a clock challenge. I also got frustrated with reading about places and people whose names I could not pronounce.

All of that deals with my own personal preference and not the author herself. Good book to keep
