I have read many memoirs, but few have moved me and expanded my understanding of human nature as much as John Darnton's extraordinary Almost a Family. There he focused on oil painting and also a fellow student named Laurette. On youtube.com type in John Darnton.. Let's hope we see a lot more books from David Carroll in the future!. Wilson "discovered" the natural world as children exploring the habitats found in their own neighborhoods. Of course, he augments his text with his own drawings and sketches; as usual, they are some of the most accurate and animated in the genre. What a voyage. A must read, whether you are a turtle lover or just appreciate brilliant writing. Most satisfying of all, it is the story of how Darnton's own life was changed by the quest. I discovered a terrific short video on YouTube about the trip Darnton took to Papua New Guinea where his father died while covering WWII for The Times. He manages to bring us along on his quest for the father he never knew. Highl
