More than just a recitation of facts or life history, this memoir reads like a Dickensian novel with a strong story line, ample surprises, memorable characters, and a dramatic arc. Brought back memories of my own ramblings in wetland areas. Brilliant, funny, inciteful. It wasn't until a friend commented on the engaging writing style in his correspondence that he tried his hand at writing and illustrating his own books. Here he has given us a heart-warming memoir, making us wish we had turtle stories of our own.. Most satisfying of all, it is the story of how Darnton's own life was changed by the quest. Beautifully written, interesting and moving. He manages to bring us along on his quest for the father he never knew. Those familiar with John Darnton's reporting and works of fiction will be awed and surprised
